Social Service

1. What are the fundamental duties of an Indian as provided in Article 51A of the Constitution?

            * To abide by the constitution and respect constitution and the national                     anthem
            * To cherish the noble ideals which inspired our national freedom struggle
            * To uphold and protect sovereignty, unity and integrity of India
            * To defend the country
            * To promote harmony and spirit of common brotherhood
            * To value and preserve heritage and culture
            * To protect and improve environment
            * To develop the scientific temper
            * To safeguard public property and condemn violence
            * To strive towards excellence in all spheres

2. List the major problems prevailing in India.

 The major problem are lack of health, sanitation, water and other public services, nutrition, economic, handicaps, ignorance, lack of education, illiteracy and un-awareness of the existing facilities.

3. The NCC cadets can play a significant role in making people at rural areas aware of the following national programs. List out them.

        * Loan facilities from financial institutions and procedure and existing social assistance benefits provided by the government.
        * Government scheme for rural areas like incentives for solar power, tube                   wells etc.
       * Education facilities like ITI course for development of cottage and small scale industries.
        * Various methods of preventing diseases like inoculation and precautionary              measures.
        * Importance of Family planning and means for that.

4. What are the social service activities undertaken by NCC cadets?

            Anti Leprosy Drive, Adult education, Anti Dowry Drive, Anti plastic Drive, Anti Tobacco Drive, Adoption of villages, Traffic regulation, Aids Awareness, Blood donation, Eye donation, Tree plantation, Construction of roads in villages, cleaning the areas.

5. What are the major social problems faced by our country? Mention any five.

            a) Problem of illiteracy b) Problem of health (ill health) c) Lack of nutrition d) Lack of sanitation and water e) Shortage of power f) Lack of communication g) Lack of infrastructure.

6. What are the four basic factors which are responsible for low literacy figure in India?

a) Poverty 
b) Lack of infrastructure in rural areas 
c) Dropouts from school              
d) religious/cultural factors – especially in the case of Girl child.

7. Mention any three reasons for poor sanitation in rural India?

a) Inadequate financial resources 
b) Lack of demand from the beneficiaries
c) Lack of response from implementing agencies 
d) Lack of public awareness

8.  What are problems faced by weaker sections of our society?

  Unemployment, Poverty, Untouchability, Backwardness, Health, Lack of sanitation, illiteracy, Lack of drinking water, Ignorance of their rights and duties.

9. Name five aspects that are to be borne in mind while carrying out Blood donation.

    Check blood group and mark blood group, Check RH factor, Check for presence of HIV, Check for Hepatitis ‘B’, Check for other infections/diseases causing organism.

10. Give any ten example of Social Service.

      Tree plantation, Blood Donation, Road Laying/Repairing, Area cleaning, Adult Education, Anti Dowry, Eye donation, Visit to orphanage homes, Traffic control, Aids Awareness programme, Anti plastic, Anti Leprosy drive, Anti Drug drive, Village adoption, Service in Poor homes, Environmental Programme.

11. What is the object of organizing social service activities in NCC?

      Cadets should have the knowledge of the problem of the society. Cadets should study the basic problem of health, environment, education, economic backwardness etc. So by conducting social service NCC cadets will become conscious of the needs of the society and there by a spirit of selfless service can be developed.

12. How NCC cadets can establish report for getting participation of the people in welfare work?

     a. The NCC unit should identify a village preferably within their enrollment area
    b. The unit must establish a liaison with the local authorities
    c. The unit must create a good relationship with the village leader
    d. The unit should study the problems of the people in that area
    e. The people of that area should be motivated to solve their problems
    f. The people should be convinced that the work is for the benefit of the people.

13. Define Family Planning. List out four methods of Family Planning.

       Family planning is defined as the voluntary, responsible decision made by individual and couples as to the desired family size and timing of birth.
      Vascectomy, Tubectomy, Conventional contraceptives like Condoms and Diaphragms, Oral Pills

14. Define HIV. List out four methods through which HIV spreads.

      HIV (Human Immuno Deficiency Virus) is a virus that gradually destroys the body’s immune system. Sexual transmission, Blood transfusion, Sharing Needles and Syringes, Mother to Child transmission during Pregnancy, Delivery or Breast Feeding.

15. Write down any five causes of cancer.

     a. Prolonged chewing of Tobacco, zarda, pan and pan masala    
     b. Heavy smoking
     c. Excessive drinking  
     d. Poor oral hygiene and dental care  
     e. Air and water pollution
     f. Deficiency of balance diet

16. List out any five methods through which we can prevent cancer.

     Avoid smoking, Avoid Tobacco in any form, Good oral hygiene, Avoid diet high in processed and preserved meat, Avoid Obesity, Handle Asbestos with caution, Early treatment and detection.

17. List out any five important NGOs (Non Government Organisations).

      Shri Niketan Yajna, Seva Gram Yojna, Gram Yojna, Child Relief and You (CRY), Helpage India, People for Animals(PFA), Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(SPCA), International Red Cross, Red Crescent Movement, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals(PETA), Rural development Trust.

18. What are the roles of cadets towards society?

      a. Develop a sense of loyality to the community to which he/she belongs.
      b. Work towards national integration and develop loyality to the nation.
      c. Actively participate in the development plans of the nation either by directly involving himself/herself or by propagating the ideas of development and by helping others in participating in the development process.

19. What are various argument in favour of Reservation Policy?

      a. Social diversity is desirable in campuses and work places. It can bring out     hidden talent of society.
      b. One way to do it is to provide relaxed entry criteria for under privileged                   groups.
    c. Hardship faced by those in general category is due to shortage of seats in professional colleges and shortage of employment opportunities and not due to reservation.

20. What are the various points against reservation policy?

     a. Economic conditions should be the basis for reservation.
     b. Reservation decisions are taken keeping political interests in mind.
    c. Allocation of quotas on the basis of caste is a form of racial discrimination and thus contrary to right to equality.
    d. Merit is severely compromised by reserving seats for certain caste based                  communities.

      e. Caste system is being kept alive by reservation policy.
